Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre
20th Anniversary Community Celebration
Saturday, August 9, 2014
10:00am – 5:00pm
New Denver, BC
www.nikkeinewdenver.ca
The Centre is thrilled to be hosting a free community event that aims to thank the organizations and individuals who have supported the NIMC over the past 20 years. We are honoured to welcome the Consul General of Japan, Mr. Seiji Okura, as a special guest, as well as a wonderful lineup of presenters, activities, and demonstrations in appreciation of Japanese culture and the Nikkei legacy.
The Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre in New Denver is a National Historic Site dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the internment of over 22,000 Japanese Canadians during the Second World War. Located on the site of a former internment camp, the original buildings, period artefacts, interpretive displays, and Heiwa Teien garden chronicle this extraordinary episode in Canadian history.
Special thanks to our partners and sponsors for making this celebration possible: The Kyowakai Society of New Denver, The Slocan Valley Legacy Fund, Columbia Power, Kootenay Savings Credit Union, Slocan Lake Recreation Commission #6, Slocan Lake Garden Society, The Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre, The Kamloops Japanese Canadian Association, Richard and Barbara Yeoman, and the Village of New Denver.
